Grape producing vines, young vines, baby vines - they all have in common the need for a lot of manual labor! It
takes grapevines approximately four years to advance from the baby stage to a producing age. The grapevines
begin breaking bud during April, and depending on the variety, are ready for harvest between late August through
October.
Most of the work in the vineyard occurs during the months of March through October, although the "off season"
months are a great time to catch up on tasks not completed during the growing months. There is never a
shortage of weeds to be controlled, trellis systems to be adjusted, or wire to be tightened.
Savoy-Lee Winery grows both red and white European and French-American hybrid grapevines. They include
Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc.
